The best Omegle alternatives

What to look for in a random video chat site now that the original is gone.

Published 2026-06-20

Omegle closed in 2023, and a long list of sites has been competing for its audience ever since. Some are good. Many are not.

What actually matters

Moderation. This is the whole game. A random chat site with no moderation becomes unusable within minutes. Check whether reporting exists and whether anything appears to happen when you use it.

No mandatory account. The appeal of random chat is that it starts immediately. A site demanding an email address before the first conversation has misunderstood the product.

Honest pricing. Free tiers that are unusable without paying are a bait and switch. Look for a site where the free experience is the actual experience.

Working mobile support. Most random chat happens on phones now. If the site fights you on mobile, it was not built this decade.

Red flags

  • A camera permission requested before you have seen anything of the site.
  • Bot traffic — identical opening messages from different "people".
  • Payment demanded to continue an ongoing conversation.
  • No terms of service, no privacy policy, no contact address.

How Omegla compares

Omegla keeps the parts that made the original popular — one click to start, text or video, skip whenever you want — with active moderation and without accounts or paywalls. Every feature is available to everyone, free.
